Schreiner MediPharm and CDMO OECHSLERhealth have launched Cap‑Lock for Vials, a combined analog–digital first‑opening indication system designed to enhance vial security and support packaging digitalization.

The solution pairs Schreiner MediPharm’s Cap‑Lock Label—engineered to provide an irreversible first‑opening indication—with a plastic cap from OECHSLERhealth that mechanically interlocks with the vial’s flip‑off cap. When the vial is opened, the label is permanently destroyed, preventing undetected reclosure.

Cap‑Lock also integrates digital features, including an RFID chip for unit‑level tracking and automated detection of previously opened vials in clinical or hospital settings. Optional NFC functionality enables smartphone‑based authentication to support product and brand protection.

Compatible with standard vial sizes, the system is intended to help pharmaceutical manufacturers improve product integrity from filling to patient use, while advancing transparency and automation across the supply chain.
