The succession will be complete by end of summer 2026, but Griffith will remain with the company until January.

Why This Matters: An incoming change in the executive team at a Top 20 pharma company.
Amgen is announcing a transition in its Chief Financial Officer (CFO) post. Peter Griffith, who has served as Executive Vice President (EVP) and CFO since 2020, is retiring.
Thomas Dittrich will assume an EVP role on July 1, 2026, and succeed Griffith as CFO effective Sept. 1.
Dittrich returns to Amgen after previously having held senior finance roles with the company. He most recently served as CFO at Galderma, and prior to that in the same capacity at Shire and Sulzer.
Overall, Dittrich brings back to Amgen 30-plus years of international leadership experience, particularly in the biopharmaceutical industry and consumer-focused healthcare. He will oversee all aspects of financial operations at Amgen going forward.
In announcing Griffith’s retirement, Amgen credited him with strengthening the company’s financial foundation. The company says he supported “disciplined capital allocation” and advanced growth strategy across the business.
“We are grateful to Peter for his leadership and lasting impact,” Amgen Chairman and CEO Robert Bradway said. “[He] helped position Amgen to deliver attractive long-term growth and expand our ability to serve patients in the years ahead.”
Neither Griffith nor Dittrich provided comment in a press release from Amgen announcing the news.
Although the CFO succession will be complete by end of summer 2026, Griffith will remain with Amgen until January 2027. This is, Amgen says, to ensure a “seamless” transition—however, Griffith’s exact role after September has not been publicly defined.
Amgen’s current mission includes using technology and human genetic data to drive innovation. The company has a broad pipeline and portfolio of medicines for cancer, inflammatory conditions, rare diseases, heart disease, and obesity.
