The move significantly expands Avalere’s global footprint, and supports Japanese biopharma end-to-end.

Avalere Health is launching an office in Japan, in the heart of Tokyo, designed to support Japanese biopharmaceutical companies. Avalere Health Japan significantly expands Avalere’s global footprint, and will strategically assist partner companies end-to-end along the product lifecycle.
The goal of Avalere Health Japan, according to the company, is providing integrated solutions to healthcare challenges from day one. Avalere stresses scientific excellence, precision in execution, and cultural attunement to Japanese physicians and stakeholders in its approach. Combined with rigorous compliance, high-quality communication, and tailored engagement, Avalere says clients can maximize their value and minimize risk.
Avalere Health CEO Amar Urhekar said that in Japan, the domestic drug market is seeing explosive growth. This is driven largely by oncology drugs, with high demand also for diabetes, immunology, and rare disease areas.
“These are therapeutic areas where Avalere Health has deeply entrenched expertise,” Urhekar said. “Opening an office in the region is a natural progression. But more than that, it contributes to our global promise, commitment, and ability to reach every patient possible.”
Industry veteran Junji Yokokawa is joining Avalere Health Japan as its President.
“Japan has one of the most advanced healthcare systems in the world, a fact I’m truly proud of,” Yokokawa said. “However, we face immense pressures, including a rapidly aging society, financial barriers for patients, and rural access gaps. We have brought together an incredible team thoughtfully structured for collaboration.”
Yokokawa added the team has the “ideal mix” of expertise for driving commercial success and making a difference for patients. It is a team, Avalere Health says, that has extensive experience building networks and agencies in the Asia-Pacific region.
Overall, Avalere Health Japan aims to unite healthcare marketing, market access, and medical expertise to address complexities in product launches. The team will combine its deep knowledge of the Japanese landscape with global best practices to achieve success at launch.
