Rebar will focus on translating CPTx’s proprietary ssDNA vector technology into in-vivo CAR-T therapeutic leads.

CPTx is appointing Edward Rebar, PhD, as Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) and elevating David Maier to Chief Business Officer (CBO).
Rebar joins after having been Chief Technical Officer at Sana Therapeutics; he previously filled the same role for Sangamo Therapeutics. Mayer, who joined CPTx in August 2025, moves up after leading the company’s single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) manufacturing and services unit.
CPTx focuses on developing next-generation nonviral in-vivo chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapies. As CSO, Rebar’s responsibility will be translating CPTx’s proprietary immune-quiet ssDNA vector technology into in-vivoCAR-T therapeutic leads.
Such vectors, according to CPTx, have broad potential in cancer and autoimmune disorders. They can leverage ability to enable durable responses, tune expression from transient to permanent, and deliver multiple genes simultaneously.
Rebar’s 30-plus years of experience as an R&D executive have specialized in building and translating cell engineering technologies. At Sana, he led development of technologies and processes for scalable editing of T-cells and stem cells. These were intended for oncology, autoimmunity, and diabetes programs. Rebar has authored more than 60 publications on development and application of genome targeting technologies.
“I am excited to welcome Edward Rebar as our new Chief Scientific Officer,” said CPTx CEO Hendrik Dietz. “Ed brings extensive experience in gene therapies, including gene editing, and in the successful development of new genetic medicines. At CPTx, we look forward to leveraging his experience, as we continue to advance our platform for in-vivo T-cell programming.”
“I’m delighted to join CPTx at this exciting time for the company and the field of CAR-T therapeutics,” Rebar said. “Our DNA vector technology provides a uniquely tunable, redosable gene delivery modality for enabling in-vivo CAR-T. We stand poised to rapidly advance the company’s mission to bring transformative therapies to patients. I’m eager to work with this talented team to achieve groundbreaking science and to accelerate our path to the clinic.”
