Thermo Fisher Scientific has introduced a laboratory kit designed to extract protein, DNA and RNA from a single biological sample, aiming to help researchers make better use of scarce tissue and cell materials often used in cancer and disease studies.

The Thermo Scientific Sequential Protein/DNA/RNA Extraction Kit allows scientists to generate proteomic and genomic data from the same specimen, reducing the need to divide small or difficult‑to‑replace samples. The company says the approach supports studies that seek to link genetic variation, gene expression and protein activity—analyses typically carried out in separate workflows.

According to Thermo Fisher, the kit yields protein suitable for mass‑spectrometry analysis and nucleic acids compatible with next‑generation sequencing. The magnetic‑bead workflow also enables automation and eliminates centrifugation steps.

Researchers who rely on limited materials, such as biopsies or rare cell populations, are the primary intended users. Malin Karlsson, a senior director in Thermo Fisher’s Life Sciences Solutions Group, said the new kit helps scientists “make the most” of samples collected through invasive or one‑time procedures.

Thermo Fisher is positioning the kit for cancer and disease biology research where connecting molecular signals across multiple layers is essential, and where sample scarcity often limits the scope of analysis.
