The Needle-Trap needle protection system is now also available for large-volume syringes.
January 8, 2026
By: Charlie Sternberg
Schreiner MediPharm, a developer and manufacturer of functional labels for the healthcare industry, has expanded its Needle-Trap needle protection system.
Highly viscous active pharma ingredients (APIs) with larger molecular structures increasingly require higher-volume syringes capable of containing up to 5 ml. Reliable protection against needlestick injuries must be adapted accordingly to ensure safe production processes and reliable end user functionality.
To address these demands, Schreiner MediPharm has expanded its portfolio of Needle-Trap needle protection solutions to suit 2.25-ml-, 3-ml-, and 5-ml syringes. To achieve this upsizing, the system’s design and function have been adapted to ensure reliable protective performance for large-volume syringes. Extensive tests ensure reliable production at Schreiner MediPharm’s facilities, as well as smooth processing on labeling equipment used by pharmaceutical manufacturers.
Compared to conventional needle protection systems or autoinjectors, Needle-Trap’s compact design enables significantly reduced materials consumption, costs, and CO₂ emissions. At the same time, pharmaceutical manufacturers benefit from efficient integration into existing infrastructure. Processing occurs on conventional dispensing systems, and secondary packaging remains unchanged. Economy and sustainability are evident along the entire supply chain, from reduced space requirements for storage, transportation, and cooling, to more environmentally friendly disposal.
